WHAT ABOUT RABIES?
A few cases of rabies have been reported in the South African seal population, including a few here in Plettenberg Bay. It appears to be more common in the Cape area. We work with the Department of Environmental Affairs, Tourism and Cape Nature, who are monitoring the situation closely.
Before every trip, your guides will brief all guests on the current situation at the colony and what to expect. Our whole team, from spotters to skippers to swimmers, works together to keep you safe. Experienced guides are in the water with you and watch for any unusual seal behaviour, and the boat is always close by. In the unlikely event of a nibble or bite, our local medi-clinic is fully stocked with the necessary vaccines.
If you don’t feel like swimming on the day, that’s completely fine. You can stay on the boat with the skipper and enjoy the seals as a viewing guest.
Your safety is our top priority. We look forward to sharing an amazing seal experience with you!
